What’s the Difference Between PRP and PRFM?

PRF, or Platelet-Rich Fibrin, belongs to the second generation of platelet-rich therapies. Like PRP, it involves using the patient's blood, but the processing method sets it apart. PRF is a self-derived blood product obtained through centrifugation without anticoagulants. This process results in the formation of a fibrin clot containing concentrated platelets without the inflammatory risks of red blood cells.

How Is PRF different from PRFM?

PRFM incorporates extra processing steps from PRF, leading to the formation of a gel-like substance or fibrin matrix with a spongy texture. This matrix facilitates a significantly more gradual release of growth factors, providing a supportive structure for cells and thereby enhancing the overall healing process of tissues.

Selphyl® Key Advantages Benefits

Unveiling the PRF Kit
A Promising Advancement in Regenerative Medicine

The PRF Kit signifies an exciting progression in the medical field. Its standout features aren't solely based on its enhanced biological attributes. Another unique benefit to the Selphyl system is that it is a completely closed system, which eliminates the risk for blood contamination to the patient and the healthcare provider. This video, from one of our Selphyl providers, gives an excellent demonstration of how easy it is to use the Selphyl system.

The PRF Kit incorporates second-generation platelet concentrate technology. This technology enhances tissue regeneration by removing anti-coagulants, allowing for quick action and improved efficacy. The PRFM technology plays an instrumental role in the swift and safe preparation of Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix from a patient’s blood sample, a key element in wound and tissue repair.

The value of this kit lies not only in its technology, but also in its real-world applications. It’s particularly effective in soft tissue wound healing, especially when using sticky bone as a grafting material. The PRF Kit is utilized in a variety of medicinal applications with PRF therapy, which includes:

  • Facilitating wound healing

  • Bone tissue repair and renewal

  • Graft stabilization

  • Accelerating the regeneration of both soft tissue and hard tissue

  • dermatology

  • pain management

  • sports medicine

  • plastic surgery

  • cardiac surgery

  • urology

  • dentistry.

Assessing the Build – The Aesthetics and Engineering of the PRF Kit

The engineering of the PRF Kit plays a significant role in its performance. Its design extends platelet delivery through the formation of a solid fibrin matrix rich in platelets, leukocytes, and macrophages, enhancing its regenerative properties. The PRFM technology enhances performance by creating a stable fibrin matrix, contributing to tissue healing and wound sealing.
The PRF Kit does not require chemical additives for its preparation, making it easy to make solid PRF box.

The PRF Kit in Action – Analyzing Real-Life Performance

By naturally facilitating healing, the PRF Kit’s PRFM technology and extended platelet delivery enhance its real-life performance. It enables a continuous and efficient release of growth factors at the wound site and transports biomolecules to the specific tissue area of injury over an extended duration, thereby supporting the natural healing process.

The PRF Kit has demonstrated effectiveness in various medicine applications, such as:

  • The early healing period after tooth extraction

  • Ridge dimension preservation

  • Bone tissue repair and renewal

  • Osseointegration

  • The treatment of furcation defects

  • Facial and Body Esthetics

Longevity and Consistency – Does the PRF Kit Deliver Over Time?

Compared to PRP, the PRF Kit consistently releases growth factors over an extended period, indicating ongoing support for healing. Furthermore, PRF membranes can remain functional for several hours post-preparation when handled and stored correctly, making it essential to properly prepare membranes.

The durability of the PRF Kit is primarily due to its distinctive composition and fibrin network, which includes a fibrin clot. The fibrin matrix acts as a shield for platelets and growth factors, ensuring their long-lasting effectiveness.

Long-term clinical outcomes associated with the utilization of the PRF Kit include enhanced skin aesthetics, improved tissue healing, and faster wound healing. These outcomes have been observed in various indications, such as treating nonhealing ulcers, where the PRF Kit can be used alone or in combination with other therapies.

Frequently Asked Questions about PRP Kits

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

PRP therapy is a medical procedure that uses a person's own blood to promote healing and recovery. The medical professional takes a small sample of the person's blood and uses a centrifuge to separate out the platelets, which are tiny cells that help with clotting and healing. These platelets are then injected back into the person's body, where they release growth factors, and support the body's natural healing process. Research indicates that platelet growth factors are released over a span of seven days, promoting the production of collagen and facilitating enhanced vascularization.

How is the PRF Kit used?

This is a simple 20-minute procedure that can be performed in your doctor’s office and involves just a few simple steps:

  1. Blood draw: The medical professional will draw a tube of blood, similar to a normal  blood test.

  2. Centrifugation: The blood sample is placed in a centrifuge machine, which spins it at high speeds. This process separates the platelets and other beneficial components from the rest of the blood.

  3. Platelet injection: The concentrated platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is extracted from the sample and applied to the targeted area of your body that needs treatment based on the physician's clinical treatment plan.

Is the Use of PRF safe?

PRF therapy represents a secure and advanced treatment, leveraging your body's natural healing capabilities. Additionally, Selphyl's exclusive PRFM system is entirely enclosed, minimizing the risk of contamination from red and white blood cells.
